Aivazovsky Hovhannes (1817-1900)

1817 – born in Theodosia.

Studied in gymnasia, Simpheropol.

1833-1839 – studied at the Academy of Art in Petersburg, studied in M.Vorobyov’s studio.

1837 – was awarded Big Gold Medal.

1844 - was awarded Gold Medal by the Consul of Academies of Arts of Paris, Rome, Florence, Stuttgart, Amsterdam and Petersburg.

Was awarded the title of Academician.

1900 – died in Theodosia.

During his lifetime was keen to charity auctions.

Left nearly 6000 canvases.

His works participated in different international auctions in many countries of the world.

The most part of his works is kept in Theodosia Memorial Museum, the second large collection – in NGA (Yerevan), many museums and private collections all over the world.
