Bashinjaghyan Gevorg (1857-1925)

1857 - Born in Signakhi, Georgia.
1873-1988 - studied at the drawing school of the Caucasus Art Society, Tiflis.
1879-1883 - studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, named after I.Repin, in M. Klodt’s studio, St. Petersburg.
Graduated from the Academy with a silver medal.
In the creation of the artist clearly dominated an epic type of landscape genre. Bashinjaghyan was influenced by great Russian painter Arkhip Kuindzhi, and in this sense he represented a line of epic scenery, which came to Russian art with Aivazovsky. Although he spent most of his life in Tiflis, the majority of subjects of his paintings is connected with Armenia. Armenian artists, in particular, Martiros Saryan, believed, that Bashingdzhagyan was his predecessor, and the founder of realistic landscape in Armenia.
1925 - died in Tiflis.

The works are kept in the NGA (Yerevan), the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), numerous private collections in Armenia and abroad.
